October Wrap Up | Spooky Books and New Taylor Album!

November 4th, 2022

Hi Readers!

October ended up being a very slow reading month, probably down to the fact that I spent much of it prepping my novel for NaNoWriMo. But I do reckon I found a new favourite book, and a new least favourite… So still a successful month!

Banner

The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde – One of the most quotable classics. Such beautiful writing.
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen – An October must.
In My Dreams I Hold A Knife by Ashley Winstead – Review
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield – Review

Banner (1)

Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman – That ending shreds my heart every time!
Lord Arthur Savile’s Crimes And Other Stories by Oscar Wilde – Definitely not on the same level as Dorian Gray.
Loch Down Abbey by Beth Cowan-Erskine – Review coming soon. An enjoyable read though.

Banner (2)

Bunny by Mona Awad – This just wasn’t for me. I really don’t want to go into more detail. Or spend any more of my time on this book.

Midnights!

I won’t lie, this is the first Taylor Swift album ever that I haven’t loved immediately. But honestly by the afternoon it was released, I had it on obsessive repeat and has been ever since! Here’s my ranking from favourite to least favourite:

Mastermind
You’re On Your Own Kid
Midnight Rain
Bigger Than The Whole Sky
Sweet Nothing
Anti-Hero
Snow On The Beach
Hits Different
Lavender Haze
Maroon
Question…?
Vigilante Shit
Would’ve Couldve Should’ve
Labyrinth
Dear Reader
The Great War
Bejeweled
Paris
High Infidelity
Karma
Glitch

I’ve also been listening to The 1975’s new album on repeat alongside Midnights. I think this might be my favourite album of theirs so far and I don’t think it’s any coincidence that it just so happens to have been produced/co-written by Jack Antonoff.
My favourite songs are Wintering, Oh Caroline, Part of the Band, The 1975, and All I Need To Hear.

The Office (US)
I’ve always avoided this because honestly I’ve seen so many clips of it online and I’ve never found them particularly funny.
But now that I know the characters, and the context of some of those clips, oh my god I love it. I finally see what the hype is about.
I’m also obsessed with Pam and Jim (I’m on season 2 so no spoilers!)

How did you October go?

Thanks For Reading,
Jess X

  1. I love that Northanger Abbey cover–it matches the one I have for Pride and Prejudice! I also really want to schedule in reading that book in October–I agree it’d be the perfect spooky season read!
