I recently did the ‘Mid-Year Freak Out Tag‘ (how are we half-way through the year already?) and one of the questions was ‘a book you have to read by the end of the year’ and it got me thinking about all the books I promised to myself I would read soon, and still haven’t touched.
So, this list of books WILL be read by 2021. They just have to be. I own all of them and have for quite a number of years now. It’s just getting ridiculous how long they’ve sat unread.
Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – This one. I just know I’m going to love it. It’s historical fiction about the Biafran War which I know absolutely nothing about, but I’m excited to learn.
The Young Elites by Marie Lu – Okay, I’ve put this one this list but I’m actually okay with not reading this this year, just because I have so many other series. But I am still so excited to read it at some point. I loved Legend and this is about kids with super powers and it just sounds so cool.
The Narrow Road To The Deep North by Richard Flanagan – I bought this when it won the Booker Prize (back in 2016) and I did pick it up but I put it down because I think it was quite a heavy topic and I just wasn’t prepared for it. I’m definitely prepared now though.
Life of Pi by Yann Martel – This is one I’ve put off because I’m not entirely sure if I’m going to life it. But I still want to giveit a go just so I can finally watch the movie.
Tess of the D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy – So the reason I haven’t read this is because I have been spoiled for the ending (which sucks) but I still really want to read it. I really liked Far From the Madding Crowd. I just have to get over the fact I know how it ends.
Dracula by Bram Stoker – For three consecutive Halloweens I have said I will read this book. Do I? No. This year I am determined to do it!
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas – I’ve started this multiple times, really enjoyed it, but just got restless. It’s just a big commitment that I haven’t been ready to make. Hopefully this year I make my way through it!
I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes – I really want to get into thrillers more and this is one that just has the best reviews so I really want to actually give it a chance.
For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway – I want to read all of his books and while I don’t think this is the best introduction into his, it’s the only one that I own so I’ll be starting here.
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Maquez – Every time I’ve done a list like this, this book has been on it. I will read it in August. I promise.
Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan – I’m actually so excited to finally finish this series. I got up to House of Hades, started it but for some reason just lost interest. I’ve just finished my reread of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and I am itching for some more!
What book are you promising yourself you’ll read by 2021?
